Restores: web zip restores up to 500 GB per request; free mailed encrypted USB drive (return within 30 days); dedicated restore app. Security: 2048-bit public/private keys protect a symmetric AES-128 key for data; optional private encryption key; 2FA (SMS and TOTP). Revenue context: Computer Backup was $16.1M in Q2 2026, down 2 percent YoY. It is a cash engine and a door-opener, not the growth story.

When an SE should bring it up

  • Customer has laptops with data that never touches a server (creative, legal, research, execs).
  • Offboarding pain: “an employee left and their files went with the laptop.”
  • Ransomware on endpoints and no versioned copy.
  • Mac-heavy fleets managed by Jamf.

Landmines

  • It is not an M365 or SaaS backup. Point to Veeam M365 to B2 for that.
  • It is not a server backup. Servers go to B2 via backup software.
  • Personal and Business share the $99 price; the difference is admin, billing, SSO.
  • Business “Save files from Computer Backup to Cloud Storage” docs exist: restores can land in B2. Use it for legal hold or long-term retention stories.

Discovery

  1. How many endpoints, Mac vs Windows?
  2. Which MDM?
  3. Who restores today, the user or IT?
  4. Any legal hold or eDiscovery requests in the last year?
  5. What happens to data when someone leaves?
